Mac Papers Expands Castle® Packaging Tape Product Line

Reinforced water-activated tape added to offering of acrylic and hot melt carton sealing tapes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 28, 2020) – Mac Papers, one of the largest merchant distributors in the southeastern United States, has added reinforced water-activated tape to its exclusive Castle portfolio of packaging products. The company launched the Castle packaging brand in 2018 with the introduction of acrylic and hot melt carton sealing tapes, and subsequently announced the addition of hand and machine stretch film.

“We’re extremely pleased to once again expand our exclusive Castle brand product portfolio and offer a full lineup of carton sealing tapes,” said Chris McCabe, vice president of packaging at Mac Papers. “Offering our own packaging materials product line reflects Mac Papers’ continued commitment to providing customers with best-in-class packaging solutions.”

Castle reinforced water-activated tape bonds instantly and securely to virgin and recycled fiber cartons. The superior bond helps ensure protection of contents from the elements, tampering and loss. Carton fiber is irreparably damaged when Castle water-activated tape is removed, providing evidence of attempted tampering. The water-activated tape is ideal for use on two-strip sealing lightweight cartons and on average weight cartons up to 40 pounds.

In addition to Castle packaging products, Mac Papers stocks an expansive selection of packaging materials from industry-leading producers at its facilities throughout the Southeast.

“We’re proud to partner with packaging producers that are leaders in the industry in terms of quality and innovation,” added McCabe. “Our packaging specialists take a customer-focused approach in assessing needs and are experts at sourcing materials that meet specific packaging requirements, including added protection and materials reduction.”

The company also specializes in automated packaging equipment and technical service as well as packaging services and solutions, from kitting and fulfillment to design and e-commerce.

Keeping an Eye on Packaging Return on Investment (ROI)

The experts at Mac Papers are well versed on the many shipping-related factors that can impact your bottom line, from package design and assembly to inventory management and DIM weight considerations. We’ve pulled together a short list to help you keep an eye on ROI.

  • Right-size primary packaging – Is wasted space costing you? A small change to primary packaging can ensure you use the correct size packaging which in turn will reduce waste and lower your shipping costs.
  • Maximize your secondary packaging – Redesigning secondary packaging can also improve ROI. Consider whether you can you ship more product on fewer pallets by safely redesigning the case size to add another layer of product to each pallet.
  • Save time and money through automation – While manually assembling 2,500 cases a day would take two people nearly 14 hours non-stop, an automatic case sealer taping a modest 10 boxes per minute can accomplish the same result in only four hours.
  • Understand DIM weight – Since many carriers apply dimensional (DIM) weight pricing to ground shipments, reducing package dimensions or volume while ensuring adequate protection of contents is essential.
  • Manage your inventory – Effectively managing inventory will allow you to free up warehouse space, redeploy labor resources and lower overall business expenses.

“Our experienced packaging professionals are adept at helping businesses navigate all of the factors listed above,” said Chris McCabe, vice president of packaging at Mac Papers. “By surveying your operation, we can locate the trouble spots, identify opportunities and develop solutions customized to your needs, from packaging materials to equipment.”

Announcing Acquisition of Packaging Professionals, Inc.

Second acquisition of packaging company this year grows team of in-market experts and demonstrates long-term commitment to the greater Nashville area

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (June 1, 2015) – Mac Papers, one of the largest merchant distributors in the Southeast U.S., announced today that it completed its acquisition of substantially all the assets of Packaging Professionals, Inc., a distributor of packaging materials and equipment in Lewisburg, Tennessee. The purchase reinforces Mac Papers’ commitment to the greater Nashville market and further adds expertise to its team of packaging specialists. All Packaging Professionals employees have joined Mac Papers as part of the transaction. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The acquisition is Mac Papers’ latest in a series of activities targeting the packaging industry in the Nashville area. Since entering the market in 2012, Mac Papers has created a strategic growth plan for the region, which included hiring a local sales and distribution team, growth by acquisition and building a new distribution center. In February, Mac Papers completed the acquisition of Boxes Etc. II, a Nashville-based packaging company. In April, it announced plans to build a new distribution center in Antioch – a 120,653-square-foot facility with retail, office and warehouse space scheduled to open in 2016.

“Our continued momentum in the Nashville area is the result of our long-term commitment to this market and our passion to be the leading distribution partner that Nashville businesses know, trust and value,” said Sutton McGehee, Chairman and CEO of Mac Papers. “Adding the Packaging Professionals team to our Nashville operation shows that Mac Papers is just as committed to growing our presence in Nashville as it is to reinforcing our expertise in packaging.”

Founded in 1992, Packaging Professionals specializes in providing polyolefin shrink film and equipment. The company’s six packaging experts also bring expertise in stretch wrap and stretch wrap equipment, paper and poly bags, hand stretch film, strapping, carton sealing and specialty tapes, cushioning and void fill, custom boxes, and single-face corrugated.

The staff at Packaging Professionals will be immediately integrated into Mac Papers’ Nashville packaging team. As a result, area customers will have access to Mac Papers’ increased product offering from premier suppliers, expert packaging solutions from local specialists, and enhanced customer service.

Beyond the Nashville market, the addition of Packaging Professionals bolsters Mac Papers’ packaging line of business by adding materials and equipment to its distribution network of 22 locations and 18 retail stores throughout the Southeast. Packaging is an increasing segment of net sales across the company, and the additional expertise and relationships to best-in-class suppliers will continue that trajectory. This acquisition further solidifies Mac Papers as a key player in packaging throughout the Southeast.
