FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you create graphic designs for envelopes?

No, we currently do not offer custom graphic design work. However, we can design the envelope itself to your specifications, such as flap size, window placement, and inside tint. We’re also happy to provide guidance on the design per your envelope needs as well as the file specifications required for production.

Is custom palletization available?

Yes, if you need a pallet built to your specifications, we can do it. Height and width can be customized per your racking system.

Are pallets reinforced for protection?

Absolutely. Corner boards are included for reinforcement, and pallet toppers are added to every fourth pallet to create a moisture barrier. This is an extra feature offered by Mac Papers and Packaging at no additional cost for the customer.

What is the difference of offset and flexographic printing?

Offset printing is done on jet presses, and can only be printed on manufactured, folded envelopes. This process uses oil-based inks, while flexographic printing uses water-based inks. Flexographic printing is a more direct process, which typically means a lower-quality print. Our team, though, is revolutionary in matching flexographic printing quality to that of offset, without the added high cost. This, in part, is achieved by ensuring all machines are calibrated so color dyes are the same, meaning your custom business envelopes with logo, specialty design, and other specialty art will be uniform no matter which machine they’re printed on during the production process.

What is the difference between a hot and cold seal on an envelope?

Cold and hot seals both provide the benefit of peel-and-seal simplicity – no licking necessary. Cold seals are less expensive, while hot seals are higher cost but offer greater security. With hot seals, you will know if a third party attempted to open your envelope, as they would have to tear through the paper, whereas a cold seal could potentially be opened at the flap.

Can you do single or double patches?

Yes, envelopes can be customized with single or double patches. Note that double patches are used when windows are not stacked, and are more cost effective due to using less film. Patch location may also be customized based on your design needs.

Can envelopes be cut into custom shapes?

Yes, we do offer shape cuts for those needing more personalized envelopes. However, please note that shape-cut designs must be approved by the USPS prior to production. Learn more on the USPS site, including tips on your envelope shape and how to consult with a Mailpiece Design Analyst.

Does the USPS offer promotions for certain envelopes?

The USPS does offer regular promotions and incentives for businesses. Visit their Promotions Page for up-to-date promotions going on now.

What is the benefit of an inside tint?

Inside tints offer an added layer of security to your direct-mail envelopes, masking private interior information. Plus, tints can be customized with your logo or preferred design.

Is the gum used on my envelopes toxic?

No. All of our gums are non-toxic.

Do you offer press checks?

Yes, we are happy to provide an on-site tour at our facility in Jacksonville, Florida. Contact us today to set up a tour.

How is your paper recycled?

We utilize an advanced recycling system. Scrap paper, such as window cutouts, are filtered through an air duct system, then processed and compressed into large bundles weighing up to 3,000 pounds each. These bundles are then sent to recycling facilities to be repurposed. Our businesses also have the option to print their envelopes on recycled paper.
